The Mascarade Opera Foundation is proud proud to announce that the annual gala festival showcasing the work of the Sacred Music Programme will take place this year over the last weekend of November. This unforgettable weekend celebrates the rare and forgotten sacred works from the time of the Medici brought to new life by the dedicated research of the Sacred Music Programme. Featuring works unheard for over five hundred years performed by our professional ensemble Vox Medicea, choir directed by Mark Spyropoulos, in collaboration with the English Cornett & Sackbut Ensemble (ECSE), in some of Florence's most iconic locations. Alongside performances, guests are invited to Masterclasses, receptions, private tours and an opening night Gala dinner.
Nico Muhly, world premiere
This year we are excited to announce the performance of specially commissioned work by internationally acclaimed composer Nico Muhly [hyperlink to Nico Muhly's wikipedia page], based on an anonymous c16th Florentine motet recently rediscovered by the Sacred Music Programme. The work will receive its world premiere at the Gala concert in the presence of the composer.
Dame Emma Kirkby, Masterclass
We are thrilled to welcome back multi-recording artist and celebrated pioneer of early music, Dame Emma Kirkby for an open Masterclass with our outstanding soloists.
The weekend concludes with a grand Medici Mass as we restore these sublime sounds to their natural setting within the awe-inspiring church of Santi Michele e Gaetano.
